COFFEE & CAKE - REMINISCENCE AND CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP
Rochelle Scholar and Nichola Charalambou invite you to their Reminiscence & Creative Writing Workshop at the All you Read Is Love pop up shop!
Following the success of our Hanging Words Out To Dry workshops in the Walthamstow Village Launderette for the Words Over Waltham Forest festival last year, Rochelle will lead a reminiscence discussion around cafes & cake and Nichola will then guide the group through a series of fun, fast paced creative writing exercises.
No experience needed, just bring your notebooks and pens. Please let us know if you wish to attend so that we have an idea of numbers. The workshop is free and open to anyone aged 18 & over.
All You Read is Love offers a special deal on coffee & cake for workshop participants.
Please contact Rochelle Scholar firstname.lastname@example.org or Nichola Charalambou email@example.com for information and to reserve your place.
WEDNESDAY 5TH FEBRUARY 2014 7 - 8PM:
BUILD A BOOK!
Have an hour to spare and a passion for children’s literature? Come and find out how to write a children’s book!
Karen Ball, Publisher at Little, Brown Young Readers and Atom (and contributor to the Book Bound writers’ retreat in May 2014) leads a 60-minute workshop around the writing of children’s fiction. We have ten places available to sign up to for guaranteed participation, but the event will be hosted in an ‘Everyone is welcome!’ spirit and Karen may even invite onlookers to shout out their own contributions in what proves to be the ultimate brainstorm!
All she asks is that you bring along a recollection of your favourite childhood read. From there, she’ll lead a fun brainstorm where everyone gets to contribute to an imaginary novel-in-the-writing. Want to learn about structure, voice, cliffhanger chapter endings and the secrets of story? Then, this will be the most fun you’ve ever spent in a bookshop!
The hour will end with a Q&A session in which you’ll be able to ask Karen about the children’s publishing industry.
All you need to bring is yourself and your imagination!
THURSDAY 6TH FEBRUARY 2014 7PM:
FOREST POETS & PALMERS GREEN STANZA POETRY READING
All You Read is Love proudly hosts an evening of readings by local E17 Forest Poets:
Paul McGrane, who is the co-founder of Forest Poets and Membership Manager for the Poetry Society. His poems have been published in several magazines including The Morning Star, Aesthetica, and South Bank Poetry. He is chuffed to have a poem in the upcoming ‘Poetry of Sex’ anthology, published by Penguin, right next to one by Wendy Cope!
Nigel Pollitt, whose work has appeared in The Rialto, Smiths Knoll, Magma and South Bank Poetry. He has an MA in creative writing, works as a newspaper subeditor and lives in Walthamstow.
Michael Shann, whose first poetry pamphlet, Euphrasy, was published by the Paekakariki Press in 2012. He has also completed a novel, The Protesters, set in London and China. www.michaelshann.com
The three Forest Poets are joined by three members of the Palmers Green Stanza group:
Katherine Gallagher, the Stanza rep, who has published five full collections of poetry, most recently Carnival Edge: New & Selected Poems (Arc Publications, 2010.)
Maggie Butt, whose four poetry collections include the sumptuously illustrated Sancti Clandestini – Undercover Saints (2012) and the poignant Ally Pally Prison Camp (2011.) www.maggiebutt.co.uk
Cheryl Moskowitz, who is a prizewinning poet, playwright, essayist and novelist. Her poetry collection The Girl is Smiling is published by Circle Time Press (2012).
The six readings will be followed by a 30 min open mic poetry session, so bring your own poems for a chance to read.
Both poetry groups meet monthly to share their work-in-progress and run local poetry events in their communities.
SATURDAY 8TH FEBRUARY 2014 7PM:
STEVEN JAMES ADAMS
All You Read is Love are thrilled to present local Walthamstow resident and terrific songwriter Steven James Adams, formerly of the Broken Family Band and Singing Adams. Adams joins the star spangled All You Read is Love bill with an acoustic set on our very last Saturday night. You don’t want to miss this gig, so pop down to enjoy the music and help us finish up the cinnamon rolls and liquorice shots!
Throughout the three week residency, All You Read is Love will feature ‘Marshans’, an installation of art from the Marshroots Celebration and art from workshops on the marshes that took place in summer 2013 under the guidance of local artist Katja Rosenberg.
